ABOUT Crane Nest 2024

Hechao is a second-generation B&B run by tea farmers. Their parents started the business with "Baoxiang Tea". His father, Chen Junheng , was a native of Shizhao. He was in charge of the livelihood of a large family at the age of 20. In the early days, they made a living by growing golden needles and bamboo shoots. These crops were enough to support the family financially, so they thought of the high economic value of tea. So they went to the Tea Improvement Plant to learn how to make tea. With his understanding of the geographical location of his hometown, he focused on managing a tea plantation of nearly 5 hectares. In the old tea factory with a 45-year history in Alishan, he used traditional tea-making techniques to show the unique high mountain tea of the local terroir. Because he loves this mountain forest and cherishes the products it nurtures, in 2018 he selected an area that had been cultivated for three years and planted the Geisha and SL34 coffee varieties.

Under the guidance and influence of his parents, Hechao's owner Chen Jianxun felt the elders' feelings for this land and saw the beauty of his hometown. Therefore, after retiring from the army, he returned to his hometown and followed in the footsteps of his elders, from tea garden management to tea making by craftsmen. He learned every step from his elders year after year. He also combined long-term tea fermentation with his familiarity with the local microclimate in coffee planting, followed the local terroir conditions, and allowed the coffee to be naturally sun-dried to capture the golden light of the sun, brewing the rich coffee aroma that belongs to Alishan.

Crane Nest (hó-siū): With the original intention of cherishing the affection bestowed by the elders and sharing it with the guests, the owner Jian Xun, with the down-to-earth teachings of his parents and a grateful heart, treats every visitor as a rare guest, hoping that the guests will return, like the weary birds returning to the nest, recharging and setting off again. Through Crane Nest B&B, he shares the local products and the beauty of the landscape and culture of his hometown with everyone.
